This attack on Solar Winds does not surprise us at all. We have seen a LOT of SMBs and state agencies targeted by phishing attacks and ransomware.

Most business executives think cybersecurity is not a top priority, until it is too late. Our biggest concern are VC-backed startups who are trying to grow at all costs. It is very common for these fast-moving companies to ignore basic security practices while bragging about their Fortune 500 customers, like Solar Winds did.

The are two important facts we can’t ignore:

  • The United States economy has a lot of enemies.

  • Even if you are small company making a thousand dollars per day, hackers will go after your infrastructure in order to hack into your customers.

The Takeaway

Don’t ignore warnings when an engineer brings cybersecurity issues up, especially in writing.
